  State Education Board gets new member

Governor Mitt Romney yesterday named Christopher R. Anderson, 47, president of the Massachusetts High Technology Council, to the nine-member state Board of Education. Romney also reappointed Henry M. Thomas III, the president of the Urban League in Springfield, to a second term. Board members are unpaid and serve five-year terms. Anderson replaced J. Richard Crowley, whose term expired. Anderson is also president of the Massachusetts Defense Technology Initiative, a public-private partnership that fought military base closings. He favors charter schools and worked on the education bill that Romney filed in September. Anderson and his wife, Catherine, live in Westford with their three children, who attend private schools.
